Tips? : Installing new farmall C fan pulley

I got a new fan pulley and seal for my Farmall C.
The original was unbelieveably hard to remove. By
the time we heated it enough to pull off, there
was steam (vapor) from the engine oil caps.

The manuals say that heating before installing is
recommended, but the pulley has the seal surface
area cast into it and contacts the seal. If its
hot enough to go on, it would melt the seal.

We are considering dry-icing the end of the crank
shaft, but that has me a bit concerned as well. I
already busted the old pulley, not looking to
break the crankshaft as well. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the help!

I have never used heat or ice. Polish the crank good & clean & the inside of the pulley. Then use 2 long bolts (redi-rods) in the hohes in the front of the block with a bar across the pully to draw it on. Don"t pound it, you can break the crank or the pulley by pounding.

I have taken off quite a few of these that is the hard part, putting them on is easy. I have never tried the other method stated im sure that is a great way as well. This is how i install them... Make sure the shaft is very clean and the pulley itself as Teddy states. Make sure you pack the front main seal with a fair amount of grease to help protect it. After heat the pulley up in the oven or with a small torch do not have to go nuts. Grab the pulley with a pair of old welding gloves or the alive place on crank shaft and drive on with a block of wood. Works great , have used this method for years from C-60's. C-113, and C-123.

If you have a threaded hole in your crankshaft you can use bolts to pull it in. I have done 2 that way with no real problem, just takes time.
