Thoughts on old gas

Railroad museum I belong to has 15 gallons of old gasoline to get rid off. I'm wondering if I could run it through my M while plowing where I could add some fresh gas, maybe some seafoam and use it up quickly. I ran old gas like that through my H when I first got it years ago and didn't have a problem. The gas had sat in that for about 20 years before I got it.

How old IS the fuel??? I have mixed old gas before in different ratios and burned it before.Be sure and strain it!(brass screen funnel and a coffee filter!)

If your in an isolated area(Country boy, like me!!!),put a SMALL dab on a paper towel on concrete and throw a match on it and see if it "WOOFS"!!!! (You can pretty much tell its combustibility! ;)

I'd burn it up. I think the key is using 50% or more fresh gas with it. I once burned up about 5 gallons of nasty fuel in the cub cadet- Put about a half gallon in when I filled it up. That gas had went to varnish, and then sat outside in a bucket with no lid on it and evaporated a little off in the summer heat, too. It was nasty- but that old Kohler hardly knew the difference. You could very well notice a difference while plowing if you mix in too much at a time. Other option- Brush pile Ignitor! HA! -Andy

I'd burn it too.

An M is pretty tolerant of poor fuel, especially when working hard. Keep in mind also fuel 20 years old will contain no ethanol, MBTE, etc. that attract moisture and cause modern gas to go bad fast.

As others recommend strain the old fuel, then blend it 50:50 or so with fresh gas and use it up!

The best use for OLD gasoline is as a fence row weed control. I blended some stale gas 50/50 with fresh gas once. Poured it into the tank of an H, and about 2 hours later I was limping that tractor back to the shop to clean the needle and seat in the carburetor. Also drained the fuel tank and refilled with all FRESH gas.

SERIOUSLY,Try a coffee filter set inside a funnel that has a brass screen sometime.(brass screen will help catch some of the "stuff" you accidently "splash" over the coffee filter,I KNOW the brass screen is MORE course than the filter!!!!!!!!)

It also take some patients! ;)

The old gas did not have any specks of rust or anything else. If it did, the sediment bowl and fuel inlet fitting screen would have caught it. The problem was the old gas. It made everything inside the carb sticky. Doubt very much if a coffee filter would have made any difference.
