MD Sleeve questions

According to the IH parts diagram online that only sleeve available for the MD is a 4" overbore. This is fine as that is what is in the block I have now. I have seen some messages saying that this sleeve does not protrude above the block.I am referring to part number 306039R1 specifically. Could someone clarify if these sleeves protrude above the top of the block? It seems like they should as IH currently only lists one head gasket and I have confirmed that this gasket is correct on an old 3-7/8" sleeves as well as 4" as the only difference is the thickness of the sleeve itself with the outside shoulder being the same size. I really would like to get confirmation form someone that has used these sleeves and last posts that include dthis part number were 2010. Thanks

the 306039R1 sleeves require a special head gasket, as these sleeves do not protrude above the block. The head gasket that goes with the 306039R1 sleeves is 305805R1 (this head gasket only works with the IH 4" overbore sleeves).

So do I have any other options besides these overbore IH sleeves? It looks like at one time Clevite may have made some. Also I am curious if I can use th 4" pistones I have as they are in great shape and they are very pricey. I can get the appropriates rings for them as I believe there are two sets. Also do you know when pulling these sleeves if I should use a puck/disk? This is what I did on my super C as I had the correct size. My concern is that these sleeves are alot thinner so the shoulder on the lower disk whould have to be very slight. I had talked to someone and they say you could use a flat bar on the bottom of the puller and just span the bottom of the sleeve. It looks like you can but that I would only be able to press them 1/4 in or more and I am not sure if they will pill hard the entire way or not. On the super c once they popped they came out pretty easy. Thanks for your help.

A tight fitting (hand pressure only, but not loose) puc with a sholder very square cut, and no more than .005 smaller than the OD of the sleeve is needed. Jim
