Late Stage 1 or Early Stage 2 SM LP?

Got this barn find while negotiating a deal on another piece of equipment. It's dead as a doornail but complete.

I'm not sure if I should call it a Stage 1 or 2! It has the battery under the seat and a three bolt starter but no live hydraulics. Has the correct tank and carb for SM LP but the wrong regulator. Only tagged for the Rockford clutch, "J", no LP suffix. Also happens to be a Louisville tractor. Only two coats of paint on this one. This one also has the corn picker front hubs.

"Wrong" regulator but the mounting is not a hack job.

No sign it ever carried a battery here!

Drawbar bushing still rolls!

Shield that goes around LP valves is missing. Seat is solid, battery box is shot!

Like Jim says the S/N will determine whether Stage 1 or 2.

Looks like it's got an aftermarket M&W throttle handle. Nice find!

Its a stage 2. The bracket on the side of the rear tank support that the starter operating rod goes through was only used on stage 2 SM tractors without the engine driven liftall attachment.
Would need to double check to be sure but from what I remember no LP SM were made at Louisville.

Stage 2.

The 3-bolt starter is a dead giveaway.

Super Ms didn't all have live hydraulics in Stage 2. They could have either, or none.

It's a bit of a squeeze but here it is! This is on my loader tractor. I have a second, identical one (except for the wfe) with the same setup.

The tank mounts directly on top of the reservoir.

Serial # is 508325, just went out and wrote it down but haven't looked it up yet.

Looked, and definately later '53. First one I have from louisville.

I can't make out who's name is on the tank tag, just the technical data from the format it's in. My other two have Tulsa tanks on them. Dimensionally this one is a darn close copy. Looks made to fit rather than modified. But the brackets are not as refined as my other two. Perhaps a purpose built "kit" to do the conversion?

So you think this one may have originally come with no hydraulics whatsoever?

Fairly straight old tractor. PO remembers riding on it as a kid with dad driving. He remembered being scared on it hence no sentimental attachment. He kept a SH and an A.

Looks like it came with the transmission driven liftall hydraulics. Stage 2 could be equiped with one type of hydraulic attachment or the other type.

Stage 2, belly pump hydraulics, Louisville #506XXX
