Hi Everyone....New Guy

New User
First, I would like to extend a warm hello to everyone, and a big thanks for all the knowledge thats freely traded here. I have been reading this forum since last August, when I dragged (literally) a rather beat-up '51 Super A home for a winter project. Never having been around tractors before, I bought all the manuals I could find, and began reading this forum several times a week. There are several of you out there that I really pay attention to when you comment or post; the accuracy and knowledge of your answers are well regarded. So I got the A home and began tearing down and didn't stop until the transmission case was laying on the garage floor. Now finally after more cleaning than I care to think about, and more money spent on parts and machine work than I will ever admit, I am ready to begin bringing her back to life. I will have many questions over the coming month's, and look forward to talking with everyone.......

Welcome...just remember that when you get to the point of showing the SHINY RED TRACTOR photos that you gotta put up a SHINY WARNING so the rest of us can put our shades on!!

Have fun...I/we like photos throughout the project.

Loking good so far!!!

By The way "WELCOME"!!!!

AND,You have what would be my NEXT choice in farmall tractors!! Love the As!

Boy, that's a familiar sight! Thanks for posting - misery loves company. : )

We're pretty much at exactly the same stage you are with the same tractor (48). It's a 4h project - and the kids are anxious to do something more productive than destructive.

Just a little more cleaning/brushing/sandblasting and we can finally start making it look like a tractor again.

I like those stands holding the trans - that's a good idea.

Congrats on getting this far, good luck going forward.

Welcome aboard!

Hard to stop once you start taking one apart to make everything right. But they turn out better that way.

So, do you do the fix-n or the fly-n?

"Those stands" are not holding the transmission. They are attached to the clutch housing. With the engine still hanging out front of the stands, it looks a little unstable to me.

The transmission is much farther back, right in front of the rear axle assembly.

welcome. I thought your handle meant Fix MN Fly MN until I looked closer :)
Looks like one to fix up and a 2nd one as a parts tractor?

Welcome to the Farmall Forum and all of us were newbees at one time. Obtaining the manuals and other available publications is a great first step. Enjoy your project and that size tractor will be a good first project, Hal.

Hello:
I love that Farmall Super A. Could I beg a favor ? Could you photograph what appears to be a three point hitch on the rear of your tractor ? I am looking at one of these for my Farmall C, but that particular item is buried in the mud and I don't know what it might be missing. I would like to know, before I make an offer on the hitch.
Thanks in advance if you don't mind doing that. Like you I just purchased my first tractor because of the fond memories I had of my grandfather who owned a BN and M.

Kevin

Congratulations! I have a 140 myself, which is very similar to your Super A. I use it all the time with my gardens and raking and tedding my 15 acres of hay. You will certainly enjoy that tractor when you get it fixed up!

I was generalizing with the word trans - I do realize it's the clutch housing.

I did sort of a double take at first too thinking they might be a bit tippy - but after the second look thought they were wide enough to make them safe.

Hello:
A photo of the hitch showing where it attaches to the rod going up to the rockshafts and a rear view of the total hitch would be greatly appreciated !
I have nothing to compare the one I am interested in and would like to have an idea what is missing.
Thanks so much if you can help !

Kevin

Rough?? I wish mine looked that good before I started on it! Looks like you are doing it well. And you look well equipped to do the job. Keep up the good work!

Hey Kevin...No, I don't have any more pics....just a couple from the same angle.....But someone else in this post offered some help for you.....
