broke a rear wheel on my H today

Busted the center right out of a rear wheel on my H today, in the mud with a scoop buried in a 22 yard pile of gravel. Had lots of fun changing out the center. I'm just glad I had another center that I could replace it with.

Looks like the axle clamp broke, then spun around and broke the wheel. Anyone else broke a center like that?

lesson learned! I was pushing too hard to finish spreading some gravel.

I am on vacation this week and I have been trying to get a pole barn up, two days of torrential rain ruined the schedule though. The old H has done a great job of site prep and gravel spreading. I'll try to get some pics up over the next couple of days.

Serious business. I am glad you were not hurt. Everything has limits. finding them can be a surprise. Jim

It happens. Not real common, but you're not the first to have one break. Happens more often on the Ms.

Iseen one break at a tractor pull a couple of years ago. When he applied powerthe wheel busted never moved the sled, pretty interesting job getting it off the pulling track, Ed

Happens ever so often. Had one break on a Super M year's ago for basically no reason, wasn't in a hard pull either. Reasoning, probably due to metal fatigue or a loose clamp or a lock washer breaking causing clamp to come loose.

Nephew broke one on his M last Saturday at the tractor pull. He was about 150' into what was looking to be a great pull when it poped. A guess 65 year old parts do have their limits.

Dad broke both wheels over time years ago on his Super M. Had an M&W kit and pulled 4 bottoms with one side dual. He put the chunks back together and had them welded and they're still holding to this day. :D Of course it hasn't done much for the last 30 years.
