What is it and value?

Ok I know what it does. It is a hydraulic valve for an IH cultivator. It is set up like a shifter so you can raise either side or both at the same time. Has an arm to mount to the steering post and an adjustment of some kind on it. The only number I can find on it is 5073 E. Any idea on value so I can pay my uncle a fair price?

I don't know if I've ever seen before this, but I like it. I'd guess if it works, or can be made to work with little effort, it should be worth a minimum of $100. Maybe more.

Very early Framall/Hurst 4 speed hydraulic boosted shifter. Gained later fame with Hertz. Very rare and collectibale. Value priceless.

I'd say if you're "keeping it in the family" $150-175 give or take a few bucks either way would be fair both of you. I've seen ones that looked as good as yours sell for over $300, and I've bought a couple that needed a good cleaning up for less than $100.

These valves are handy on a 4-row cultivator on point rows so you don't cultivate the end rows up, but you can still cultivate up to them.

I think it's called a "selective hydraulic valve".

This is the one shown in the back of the parts book?

I went and got the picture.

I assume you lock your control rod like you would with a 2 way valve. Does this thing give you two way hyd as well?

I have one that was mounted on my 48 H when I got it. I removed it and put on the regular lift lever. It operates the lift, so there is nothing left to lock.

I have one of those on my H. It's got plugs in all the ports like that one and it seems very loose. Are repair kits available for them and if so, how expensive are they?

It's been at least a decade since I've had one on a tractor, so I'm a bit rusty on these. I think the control rod goes to the belly pump contrlol arm, and using it in this fashion does not allow for two-way hydraulic control. You lift and lower an entire cultivator with the center quadrant just like if you were using the stock rod to the pump. If the rear gangs lift seperately from the front, you still hook the hose to the rear port coming out of the belly pump, and it isn't plumbed through this valve. You then still have the opportunity for the delayed lift of the rear section.

I think I've seen one on a SMTA, which would have had live hudraulics. How it was plumbed, I can't recall.

If it functions properly, doesn't leak and nothing is broken, I'd leave it alone.

Parts availability for this valve from CIH today is probably going to be next to nothing. Maybe some common hardware and the pipe nipples will be available from them. If you're really lucky, the gaskets, seals, pins and balls might still be available. I wouldn't think much of anything else would be available from CIH, but it sure wouldn't hurt to ask a dealer. Parts Depot, Vintage Parts, or a NOS parts dealer might have some parts available.

I know I got numbers 26, 28, and 34 in the picture from either a NOS parts dealer or bought them in a totebox full of parts at a dealer auction to fix one of these at least a decade ago.
