16 cutting disc for my IH#37 Disk.Which ones to buy???

Hey,

I have asked this last year,but I am going to again.lol

I am getting ready to dis assemble my #37 disk.Basically I am going to just pull the gangs off of it and send the top part of the chassis to the sandblaster.(I do not see ANY reason to waste sandblasting on the disc and the spacer spools?????)

My disc originally AND STILL has 16" diameter disc on it.ALOT of them are broken/busted(About 10 of them!)The ones on it right now ARE NOT the HEAVY ones made by Case/IH.They are 11 gauge I believe? I CANNOT afford to put all new IH brand cutters on it. Are their any aftermarket ones that are heavier ?? Is there a better brand that is still inexpensive??? I thought of just putting new ones on the front row only,and then put the best of the remainders on the rear row.

What is the square shaft size supposed to be for a #37??? (as I am writing this,I am nowhere NEAR the disk to measure it myself.)

I also know using lighter gauge/thinner disc wiil cause me to have to run a thicker washer under the nut that tightens them all on the bar.

BTW,this disk WILL NOT be seeing alot of "full time" use. Just "hobby farming"!

Check around at the dealerships and see if you can buy some used ones. My IH dealership gave me some used ones that were 18" off a disc that called for 22". Just a thought.

For the light low-acreage use your disk will see, I would just go with the cheapest you can find. They won't last as long, but you won't notice because you're not farming hundreds of acres with it!

Even the cheap disks won't show appreciable wear in your lifetime.

Many years ago i replaced all with 18" from tractor supply on the # 46 IH disc.Two words of advise, You can't hardly tighten those end nutts tight enough. Next do not try to put all those new blads in one cart!!!!!!!! Bud.

Our local fertilizer plant/farm supply place (a real "tractor supply" unlike the yuppy one) sells some that come from Brazil. I can't remember the brand but I remember looking on their website and they seemed like serious business. I put some on my 8ft. minny-mo disc and have been happy with them.

Don't feel bad, I can't justify the IH "earth metal" stuff either. Supposed to be "Da bomb" though.

The CNH discs are without a doubt the best but also most pricey, you have in your favor that as another post mentioned the chance of finding some used, IH/CNH discs were all interchangeable as long as it was the 1-1/8" square arbor bolt. Be warned that getting them tight is a real chore. If possible clean all the contact surfaces that touch such as spools & spacers, you cannot clamp rust & dirt with expectation of getting correct torgue on the arbor bolt, 650 ft lbs is a 200# man on a 6' cheater pipe. I used to set up & deliver these discs when new.

Bought some for my John Deere disc from Agri-Supply. Been happy with them, but only had them on for two years.
