Today, I looked for the small sheet metal dome cover that you described for me, but what I found on top of the pto housing was a small sheet sheet metal dome cover that sat on top of a metal tube that was about an inch tall and half inch in diameter that looks like a breather tube. There was no access cover with a nut. So I'm thinking this must be the clutch operated style, which you said is not adjustable. If this is the clutch style, how would get access to the clutches for replacement and is it a major operation? I'm a shade tree mechanic, but I like to fix things if I can. Can't afford to pay $100. per hour these days. THANKS AGAIN JIM LARRY frm MO

The parts are available from CaseIH and Hycapacity and others. It is a simple multi disk clutch based device. A manual is good if you are unsure, a camera is needed to document you tak apart effort such that togetherness can happen. It is a disk style. Jim

The over center clutch is adjustable but unless you have one of the later ones it will need to be removed from the tractor and adjusted on the bench. The latest housings had a large plug on top that was removable so that they could be adjusted without removing from the tractor.

Thanks for the replys; So many ????????? before i start tearing this pto apart. There is a bell shaped (pto) housing that has 4 long bolts that attaches to the rear axle. I assume that when I take these out I can pull the pto and the housing all out at the same time! I also noticed that there is a seperate seal bearing cover that surrounds the pto shaft with 3 bolts in it. Once I get it out I assume I will be able to see the clutch disks at that time and how would I know if it only needs adj. or replaced? THANKS AGAIN from everbody. Larry (ps) If anybody out there has a manual for a IH460 utility I would be interested.
