1566 second gear problem

Just bought a 1566. Second gear takes slot of finesse to grab and sometimes just will not grab in any range. 1 and 3 work fine. No cab. Possibly a fork? Can it be accessed through top cover ? Thanks. A.P.

If you just bough it contact the seller immediately, before you tear into it. Often a seller will prefer to split the cost of such repairs 50-50 with a buyer instead of having it returned for a full refund.

Very high possibility problem can be addressed by taking the cover off the 3 speed transmission. Broken or loose bolts holding shift rails are common. Also a reinforcement cradle is available to give better strength to that setup. Other possibilities under there also like fork or cam or might be worn gears and or collars which would be serious.
