Disesl Feul

New to the diesel world what is the difference with disel feuls and are they all compatible. Some is red in color some is yellow. Went to buy diesel last night from gas station and it is Bio-diesel and yellow in color. the disel in our tractor is red in color. I mixed it together and 966 ran just fine, Just wondering everyones experiences

Basically two grades of diesel used Summer and winter blends.
#1 and #2
The same as home heating oil.
Home heating oil has been exept from rad tax, as has been farm (non-road) use.
These are collored with dye to make them detectable in the fuel tank of a vehicle being used on the road illegally.
Low sulphur and Ultra low sulphur diesel are going to be the standard due to the use of catylists in the exhaust stream. It also reduces sulphur emissions in the environment, reducing sulphuric acid in rain. Jim

while on this subject, i read somewhere that fuel oil is the same as off road diesel. i dont think so myself but wanted other opinions. colors are so you can tell off road from highway for tax pouposes so i was told

Red is not taxed for road use, better not get caught with it in your tank by DOT. The fines are very stiff. I have also heard it takes several tanks of road fuel to get rid of all the dye.

just like a food coloring in a chiffon cake. cake can be yellow or red but still tastes the same. dont matter what color still same diesel.

we have ran B11 (11% bio) for several years & several gallons & have a list of do's &dont's: do not use bio in anything that is not used very often, do not use in anything that has a steel fuel tank, do not have your supplier put fuel in your storage tank until it is empty. do put a fuel additive with a drying agent & stabilizer, the equipment that we use bio in will get weaned from bio & put on 100% diesel at the end of its season

All diesel fuel comes into the terminals as clear (yellow)diesel. The red dye is added when loaded on to the truck. The trucker has to punch in a different number when loading off road diesel and it turns on the dye pump. Furnace oil and No 2 diesel was the same years ago.

Low Sulfer Diesel (LSD) is only allowed in boats and train engines now. You can't buy it for anything else. There was a three year period when you could get LSD for off road and Ultra Low Sulfer Diesel (ULSD) for on road applications. In 2010ish they mandated everything be ULSD. We were having this discussion at lunch a couple weeks back and this was what Wikipedia said...so you know it has to be right.
