I just bought a 2 prong break away 12 volt outlet for my Super M so I can run a tail light on my implements. I am not sure if a Super M ever had an outlet on it when it was new???? I think the 400s and 450s might have came with them?????

Where did the 400-450s have these located at???? Was it on the battery box somewhere???

I have seen the 'remains' of them on the battery boxes on these tractors.Just because a SM (or similar)did'nt come with a plug, there is no reason that you can't add one or any other "safty feature",or other update/accessory.Damn the 'Correct police'

The 400 and others came with that electrical plug in to be used for starting and stopping thepull type equipment. Such as a combine. You would hit a button to stop the combine in an emergency. It activated an electric brake in the cylinder pulley.

I dont know about the Farmall version, but the W's had the plug just under the back edge of the platform by the fender.

On my 450 LP, the connector is on the battery box on the right side, just above the connections for remote hydraulics. My daddy bought it new in 1957, and I never knew what it was there for!

Good topic Mike. I am looking at putting one on as well. It would be nice to mark the back of the plow. With the short daylight hours in fall it is tough to move in the light and this would be a good insurance factor.

The parts diagrams are a PITA to load so take my word for it. They are on pages 159-161 of the M book (under electrical) I better work so I won't go look to see if they are shown better in the 400 book.

I thought mine was rigged up, but it must be a remnant of a factory item. The location is certainly not factory as it is on my add on platform etensions.

You can see it in the picture on the right platform. Picture c/o d282 ;)

Investigating the 400 tractor more yielded a few more things.

pages 134 (Extension), 136 (Implement Side), 137 (Bat Box), 148 (wiring diagram)

Thesecond picture (pg 148 of the 400 manual) yields everything you ever wanted. The only problem is it calls it "SOCKET, electrical break-away connector" Not sure if that means it is designed to shutdown equipment in the event of breakaway or if it breaks away so that stuff doesn't wreck if your plow trips.

Here is the setup for an M

I really don't think that outlet was ever intended to do anything more than provide a place to plug in a tail light that was installed on the rear of a wagon or other implement.

Thank you for ALL the replies!!!!!

It IS a "break away" connector. It is meant to "yank out" if your plow "trips" wagon "runs off",ect, ect, ect!!!

ALL I am seeing pertains to the tail light I am assembling. I see where it was used in other applications??? ( Shutting down a bailer???)

How would THAT work??? Just asking???

FWIW 450's had the break away mounted on the right side of the battery box and the light on the left. exact opposit of 400's (rowcrops that is)
