Recently purchased 460 and was trying to figure out how to stop the pto from turning to hook up a bushhog. There is a long bar beside the right foot with a release handle that raises up and down. It goes back and is connected to the top of the pto housing, but in either position it is still turning. I had ford tractors before and all you had to do was move a lever on the side to disconnect. Would appreciate any help. THANKS Larry frm Mo.

The lever is intended to both engage the PTO and stop it with internal brakes. Your PTO could be either a Band operated planetary gearset, or a multi disk clutch operated type. In either case, the lever is fitted with latching detents on the handle. In on (rearward) position, the bands or clutches are driving the PTO shaft from the engine (bypassing the engine clutch).
In the forward (off) position, A different band is contracted on a drum stopping the PTO. Not just removing power, but putting on shaft brakes.
If the lever and linkage have no lost motion(a common issue), and the lever travels to the latching points, and it still turns, the bands need to be adjusted. If it is the clutch style it is not adjustable and will need new clutches. Jim
