Farmall 400 replacing crankshaft walkthrough

I have a Farmall 400 that has a spun bearing on the crankshaft.
I think I have to split the tractor and/or remove the front wheels (whichever is easier).
I have worked on engines in the past but not on where I have had to split the tractor.
Can anyone give me some advice on maybe a step by step walkthrough, or tell me what I should make sure not to do while disassembling or reassembling the tractor that a manual might not tell me?
Thank you I appreciate the help.

It depends on which journal has the spun bearing. If it is a rod journal you will have to split the tractor. If it is a main journal you'll have to pull the engine as it will have to be line bored.

Thanks,
I"m pretty sure it is the main journal.
What is the best way to pull the engine?
I think I can get it out of the frame by pulling the front end assembly off, but I wasn"t sure if that was the simplest way to do it..

I start by removing the front end and working back to the engine. You can take a cherry picker and remove the front bolster with the radiator attached. Just hook your chain up towards the top and it should slide out of the frame rail and then you can carefully lay it down. You might have to loosen the frame bolts at the back of the engine to get it to come out. Make sure you have good blocking behind the engine.

reguardless , for crank work the engine should be out and in a stand, so the job can be done properly. more likley a rod than main.

There's a lot more to splitting a tractor than can be communicated in a few text messages in a forum.

The engine MUST come completely out, I agree.

I don't know if this video is still available, but there used to be a video on overhauling a Farmall M. It showed how to disassemble the tractor from the front back to get the engine out.

An M is the same basic design as a 400. Major differences are the hood design and hydraulic lines.

Maybe you can find this video.
