Another Glow Plug Problem

Thanks to everyone who helped with my question about the coil type glow plug indicator on BD154 engines. I've installed new glow plugs, but the system doesn't appear to be working properly. With switch activation the dash mounted gauge will swing full right, the coil indicator gets red, but the engine only appears to fire on one cylinder. Voltage readings are as follows: Battery 12.6v #4 cyl 4.5v, #3 cyl 1.5v #2cyl 1.5v #1 cyl 0v Another tractor sitting here has almost identical readings but it seems to start ok. My local dealer is clueless, but it seems to me that the voltage reading should be more consistant.
Any thoughts?
Alan

If the readings you are taking are all to ground, the reason they are decreasing is that the plugs are in series. Measure each as a stand alone (both terminals on the same plug being probed) this gives voltage drop on each. (should be equal and a little less than 2v. (best guess as I am not looking at it. Jim

something isn't right there

starting at front of the engine, that first glow plug should be about a volt above ground, each one in turn going back towards the resistor should increase by about a volt above ground

might have wiring mixed up

IMHO

Try taking them all out & wiring them up again like they were. Then see if they all get red hot when you put the juice to them.
