F 20 water jacket gasket- sealant or not

I was wondering if a person is supposed to use a sealant when you install the water jacket to the head? Afterall they will be torqued to about 85lbs. I did not see the answer in the achives. The head gasket has the metal rings for all the passages and it said it does not need to be re-torqued. It did not mention anything about sealant and so I did not use any on it. Also I am missing a few nuts for the head. Will any nut with a flat washer work or does it need to be OEM style?
Thank you
Steve

i presume you put a gasket in there? i like to use permatex hi-tach spray on the gaskets . it holds them in place and you get a good seal. i am not a fan of silicone.
as for the nuts. they are a fine thread and the the proper size works, but those originals have more meat on them so you will need 2 wrench sizes.

I use the red RTV silicone sealant on the jacket and copper coat every head gasket I use. I would also consider at least checking the head bolts after warming up the engine.

yep, a thin coat of high temp RTV on every gasket except the head and Copper Cote on every head gasket. These old girls have enough leaks without adding coolant to the mix.

I alwayws go to O'Reilly's and ask for the Permatex board. They have a peg-board with the latest permatex items, they make specific sealers for just abour every aplication, for only a few bucks you get the latest technology.

I prefer gasket shellac. You can pick it up at most napa stores. It"s nice, because if you ever have to take it apart in the future, you can reuse the gasket.

I did some digging this morning and found the nuts that came off the donor motor. Now I have extras.
Thank you
Steve
