Id like to install a alternater on a 560 diesel, can anyone tell me what would need to be done as far as wiring,id use a delco internaly regulated alternater.

This will have relevant info. Two ways to excite the alternator. Use a momentary contact push button to feed 12v to the # 1 spade terminal. Or Put a "T" in the oil pressure sending unit fitting at the block, and use a NAPA supplied "on with pressure" switch. Wire the switch so it gets bat + voltage at one terminal, and the other goes to the #1 Alt spade terminal. Works either way but the first requires your remembering to make it charge. Jim

Jim, since this is on a diesel tractor, unless the injection pump has been converted to electric shut off, you don't need to be concerned about back feed from the excite terminal on the alternator. You can just wire it to the key switch.

Jim ,I used a #194 bulb in an auto type socket from a license plate light and made a little bracket to hold it right in the gap where the steering shaft enters the hood on my H. I can see it but it doesn t show from the outside and is out of the weather. Works the same as an "idiot" light on a car. Wired to get power when switch is on,and then to alt. excite terminal. If the light is on, its not charging. Because of the slow rpm of the tractor it needs to be revved once to get the alt. going, then charges for that complete run cycle regards of rpm. Eliminates the need to remember to kick in the alt.

Yes thats correct it has a cable to manually shut the fuel off. Thanks for the ideas guys just trying to get it done as simple as possible.
