47 Cub Barn find aagin!!

Greetings to all from Papalote, TX, AGAIN I Just figured out the the Firefox browser was keeping me from being able to post pictures so I have moved it back to the top...
Well this weekend my wife and I literally saved an Oliver Super 66 and a Farmall Cub from the scrap heap, I mean some scrap haulers had a big dumpster with an end door open and they were about to shove them in when I arrived on the scene... What a nice find both were one owner machines and until he passed away they were well taken care of, unfortunately it had been quite a few years before the estate was dealt with. I am an Oliver guy and that is what I was hunting at the time I also picked up the Cub, what a neat little machine, it is very complete including a cultivator. belly mover, one row seeder and a blade, by the serial number it was built in late 1948.
I have some questions about it and the implements, the machine was loaded with lights,electric start,wheel weights, question were all the Cubs electric or was that an option?
It looks like it has a hydraulic rocker shaft was this standard? All of the implements were green (traces of green anyway) but for the belly mower which has no paint I can see yet, but the belly mower looks different than all the pictures I have seen because the front and back of the deck are rounded rather than octagonal. I have tried to upload some pictures but after I hit upload and the picture appears in the small window and I hit "continue" it just sits there and say returning to upload another picture?
Anyway any help on what to look for to identify these implements and info on the options would be appreciated

I'm glad you saved them from the scrap hauler. It would be a shame to destroy a couple of antique tractors and history.

Most Cubs came with electric start, electric lights, and hydraulics. They were all "optional" but IH shipped the tractors to dealers with all these options in an effort to get farmers to modernize, and to make more money.

There's a ton of information out on the google about Cubs, and some very nice people gave you pointers to those resources in the thread you started yesterday about this.

Can't speak for Cubs, but the big tractors don't come with front wheel weights very often. They are a pretty good prize.

WOW! what a nice Cub and Oliver you found!! We have around 17 Cubs right now, and just saved one this past weekend from the scrap heap! Yours is really nice with the full set of Cultivators WITH ORIGINAL BLUE PAINT STILL SHOWING!! It also has the hard to find front wheel weights and the original hand crank!! Is the motor stuck or loose? If it's loose and you'll bring it to Alabama; I'll give you 10 bills for it. Heck bring em both, and we might make a deal on both. That Cub looks like it would run really good! Keep us updated on what happens to it. If you try to get it running, just remember to primse the oil pump before you lock up the engine.

Really nice little Cub. We had one on the farm when I was a kid. Pulled wagons around and raked hay and straw with it. I mowed a 14 acre wheat stubble field with it, took two days. We didn't have hydraulics, just a hand lift. It came with a tandom disc, and a 4 ft. cicle bar mower, plow and cultivator. Great garden tractor. I now have a '59 model. I hope you restore yours and use it. Good luck with it.

We plan on restoring and using it, I think my wife will get a kick out of using it in her "garden" which we plan to expand to about two acres or so.
All of the implements, cultivators, seeder and blade have the same color paint, not sure about the belly mower I have not found any paint on it yet.
What do you think about the mower, it is not shaped like any of the others I have seen as the front and back are round?? I am also not sure about the blade, it has a spring under the framework to allow the blade to "turn under" similar to a snow plow?
I will post more pictures after we get it off the trailer today, and yes the engine is free and I was told it got a ring job shortly before the original owner quite using it, I was told it was one of his most prized possessions.
I was shocked when I got home and discovered the hand crank would not only just pull out but would pull out in the "resting" position (handle down) I am lucky to get home with it and not kill anyone along the way!

Those little front weights are worth more then the rears.
For a 2 acer garden the Cub will do well for you.I have seen a mower like that but don't know what brand. Cub mowers are pretty good for large lawns if the grass isn't to heavy. Your doin good to get 9 HP out of it.

Well we got it off the trailer and I did a modest amount of cleaning with the old high pressure washer and so far this is what I have figured out with what was on the tractor and what came home in the wife's pickup (the bed was pretty full)
It is equipped with..

The Cub 144 Cotton and Corn cultivator that is complete including the floating shields

The Cub 171 Blacklands one row Cotton and corn planter complete with the fertilizer option and I think the press wheel attachment is also in the pile, and also the cover disc and cultivator options.

I have ordered the carb kit cuz you know that's needed for sure, it does not seem to have allot of compression but I can feel the compression twice per revolution and they feel even during the two revolutions it takes to complete the 4 cycles so I don't suspect any big problem there.
Oh yes I did also get some of the original manuals too, but have not looked through them yet.


Also there is quite a bit of slop in the PTO shaft but that is probably not too big a deal.

The mower looks like it might be a Woods but it is not a traditional grass mower. It has only one blade. I had a Woods like that mounted under a "B". The mower is sort of a cross between a regular shredder and a grass mower and will handle heaver cutting than a regular grass mower but not as much as a Bush Hog type mower.

I forgot to mention it has the pivoting blades like a bush hog.

Maybe that mower is a Kub Klipper or a Pennington?

If you'll send me your email, I can get you in touch with a Carburetor rebuilder that is one of the BEST in the Antique Tractor business. I just sent him 12 carbs to rebuild and they come back looking and working as good or better than a new one! He even tests all of them on a tractor and adjusts them before sending them back. If yours is missing the choke lever, he custom builds those from aluminum. He is a machinist by trade. I could also trade with your carb with one of mine that he rebuilt if you'd like to go that route so you didn't have to wait. It is definitely worth the money! Here is one on a cub tractor that he rebuilt.....
