Problem removing belt pto on H

Hey Old Man!

New User
Have removed all 4 bolts on top of belt PTO and while the
rear seems to move a little I can"t even drive a putty knife
between the PTO flange and the transmission cover in the
front. Is there something I am missing?

Yes, two more bolts. You are talking about the belt pulley attachment on front of transmission aren't you. There are six bolts, and two dowels, but the dowels just pull out with it.

I'll have to check tomorrow, maybe I did remove 6. I assume they are all on top, none hidden anywhere? As I said the rear moves a little but the front is TIGHT! And yes, it is the belt PTO, thanks for your reply,

The four you removed were likely all short, 1.5-2". The two you need to pull out are up near the middle of the belt drive housing and when you pull them out they are maybe 6" long at at guess. Much longer, anyhow.

You realize, if it's something that simple, I'm really going to feel stupid. Even more so than usual. I'm pretty sure I missed those, I'll check tomorrow. Thanks a lot.

The bolts are 6-1/2" long. They go down through the top center of the "hump" on the gearbox.

You have to pull the gearbox with the long bolts still inserted. The gas tank is in the way to pull the bolts out.

I usually thread a nut on the dowels to pull them out a bit. Seems to help it lift out easier.

I don't feel quite so bad, both bolts were hidden behind wire clamps. I guess I didn't pay any attention to the bolts, thinking they only held the clamps in place. That's mystery and I'm sticking to it. Thanks for the help guys.
