head gasket problem?

I recently had bought a farmall 140 and it dose not seem like it is running right. If you try to throttle it up to quickly it will die you have to do it very slowly, maybe this is normal? It also is leaking motor oil around the bottom of the exhaust, my guess was it has a bad head gasket but I don't have much experience with these things, any help would be appreciated.

Does choking it help or hurt when you throttle it up?? If it helps the carb is running to lean if it hurts probably to rich. As for the oil leak is there say a line coming from the valve cover or other such gasket in that area??

you need to do a complete tune up including carb cleaning and o/h. most important is the compression check and read the plugs which tells you the state of the engine. if you have low cyl. readings that would be the explanation to oil in exhuast.

Adam, bought recently! Did it ever run right?
If it was stuck and still has rings stuck it will blow oil. Not getting good fuel flow could cause poor trottle responce. oldiron29

check the oil bath make sure it aint leaking, and if that isn't the problem the gasket around the valve cover could be leaking, if the tank is the origanal i have had problems with them rusting on the inside and the rust makes it hard for fuel to get to the carb 9 times out of 10 it is a lack of fuel check the sediment bowl and put about a 1/2 inch stand pipe on it (brass or copper, and if that aint it back out the jet pin on the tractor (while she's running warm)and the carb may have crap in it so if it can't be adjusted to run right the carb may have to be taken apart and cleaned/rebuilt, it is commen for the carb to be blocked with rest when the tank has rust in it, i hope you can get it runnin but if all that doesn't fix it that it needs searous help (rings, valves cylinders honed/replaced)

The full story being that I saw the ad with pictures, it was a little rough but it said it ran good. I knew a fella who lived handy so I asked him to take a look and see if it did run good, he went and said it ran fine. Based on that I bought it and had it sent to a guy who painted it and a few other little things, he also said it ran fine. Like I say it does run now but it stalls easily and wont respond to quick throttle changes. I will check all the things mentioned and hopefully it wont need major work. Thanks for the help.
