Looking at a international 464 on craigs list good tires, needs paint and they are asking 4000.00 was wondering about Hp and if this might be in the right price range. Looks very straight

It seems like a good price to me. Is it diesel or gas? I have a diesel version and it is the most fuel efficient tractor I have ever used; however, I have heard that the gas models are rather thirsty. The 464s had about 45 pto horsepower, if I remember correctly. I use mine to pull a John Deere 336 baler, a 7.5 ft. hay mower and do some chores and it does great. The hour meter on my tractor says 15,299 hours but it has been broken for many, many years. It is a great tractor!

That is a positive. The only recurring problem I have experienced are leaky fuel filters. Check to see if the one you are looking at is airtight at the fuel filters because that is a good sign. Of course, it is not a hard fix, but the issue can be annoying. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

The diesel version was a d179, 3 cylinder. Great little motor that was used for many years (454, 484, 485, 495,...). Easy on fuel and tough. Start pretty well in cold. Same rear end and transmission used on much larger tractors. Good parts supply through scrappers or case/ih.

I picked up a little 454 last fall. Good brakes and three point power. Check the park brake as most don't work. Once someone drives off without releasing it, the brake band gets burnt and can distribute lining material through the hydraulic oil. Worth checking the filter if considering. Bands require some work to replace. Most don't bother.
