cracked F-20 round spoke front rims

I recently cleaned all the caked-on grease and dirt off the round spoke front rims for my F-20, and discovered that about half of the spokes on each rim have been welded where the spoke goes into the center hub. Also, most of those welds have cracked... it looks like the cracks are right along the centerline of the welds. Which leads me to a few questions:

1. Are these rims prone to breaking spokes?
2. If not, just how badly would the tractor need to be abused to do this?
3. Is it possible to successfully weld these rims? In other words, are these just crappy welds?

ive seen very few round spokes that are broken in this way. of the rims i have found with welds, it does seem that at least half the spokes were welded so i assume someone was pretty rough on it during its life. Another explanation could be that they might have been used on a loader tractor, or somehting with a picker on it. the xtra weight may have been detrimental to them, dunno

ive only run across a few rears that ever had welds on them

A man in a billess welding hat in 1960 told me
anything made from metal can be welded. If they
were mine I would wire brush, sand blast, grind the
bird poop out of the joints, and re weld them. 70
18 rod, or alloy wire feed. A nice clean weld will
be good for ever. (I might consider welding them
all to have a uniform look. As Old-F20 points ot
they were likely abused. Jim

front rounds for an F-20 arent hard to find and by the time you waste trying to fix these you could pick up an unbroken set somewhere and they will look lots better for the fact that the havent been welded.....

I suppose... but I'm trying to not let my expenses for this restoration get too out of hand. I'll have to do more investigation into what the going rate is for round spoke rims... or for that matter, cast rims, which I'd be fine with too.

ive got a set of cast centers you can have if you want them, i wouldnt mind gettting them out of my building. Friend of mine bought new rims for the cast centers not too long ago and i think he got them from Millers for like 50 a rim which i didnt think was too bad
