In-Frame O'haul kit-350U?

Some of the kits I've seen advertised have lots of components and some have less and appear to be priced accordingly. If it's an in-frame kit with cylinder sleeves...how are the old sleeves removed? working outside (without splitting the tractor)? I'll probably do the head, rings, pistons and rod bearings....maybe mains if I can get to them easily enough. It's a '58 and has the 175 gas engine. Thanks in advance...

The sleeves are removed with a puck. (looks like a Hockey puck with a stagerred diameter that catches the lower edge of the dry sleeve. A threaded rod and bridge at the top pull the sleeve out the top with little trouble. No real issue. the new sleeves are frozen in a conventional freezer, the block is heated with a heat lamp or other warming device then the sleeve is placed and if needed tapped in place with a wood block and hammer. Total of an hour if practiced, 2 if not. This site has the kits with reasonable price and the kits have a good reputation. Jim

If you are going to replace the mains by all means pull the engine and get it on a stand so you can remove the crank and get it ground or else just hone the walls and re-ring depending on your use it could last a long time well. Your best plan would be take the block and have someone replace the sleeves you can install bearings and seals yourself if you have the tools and some esperience. But if money is the big factor hone the walls and re-ring remembering in the long run doing everything will be the best for the future.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I could make a sleeve puller using a new sleeve for a template to get the diameter right and a slaphammer to knock it up through the top. I do have a freezer and heat available even though I'm working under a tarp strung between two trees. It isn't going any where until it's running and the hydraulics flushed so I can get the loader and backhoe out of the dirt. Not sure about the mains but rod bearings will get replaced. Would an 'undersize' number be stamped somewhere down there if they've been done before?

yes they are marked on the backs of the inserts for undersize (on the shell)
Slide hammers do not work as well as a direct pull with threaded rod (3/4") and a pull through setup on the top of the deck. The new sleeves could be for increased displacement, be sure to at least check the size being pulled. Jim
