I saw a 706 in a book that looked to be four wheel drive. It had large knobby front tires and a heavy duty front axle with what looked like a gear box. I have not been able to find any info on them. Are the real or am i making stuff up?

The Coleman MFD are very collectable and usually add a few thousand to the price if in good shape. The ones I have been around need to be in a field that is at least 40 acres because the saying it takes 40 acres to turn around applies. Most of those show up in western states or collectors usually on larger tractors.

They worked well enough in a straight line.

However, the Coleman axles especially take about a football field to turn around.

IMHO the 706 really doesn't have enough power to make good use of the extra traction.

There are tons of IH tractors with MFWD. Not a lot of 706's though.

I took the Coleman 4X4 axle off of a 706 and put it on my 806. The 706 didn't have the power to get full use of the 4X4. The 806 does, when turning if it is not turning sharp enough, just hit the brake and it drags the front end around. I had to add on to the wishbone and the driveshaft to make it fit the 806 and everything else worked.
