wooden pulley question

Went to saw firewood and discovered that varmits had chewed a section of the pulley away. I tried to use it that way but the belt kept jumping when it hit the chewed away section. the section that is damaged is about 1 in deep and across the entire face and about 1/4 way around the circumferance. Is there any temporary repair that can be made?

Wire brush the location to remove loose material. Dry with a blow drier if wet at all. Use JB weld to fill the void. Use a piece of tin to form the outside contour by over filling a little, put some 1/4" holes in the shaping tin to allow the excess to escape. Use a thin coat of grease on the tin to act as a release agent. Wrap the tin on the repair and wrap it with nylon string stretched so it smashes the JB weld into conformation with the roundness of the pulley. Jim

(quoted from post at 08:53:22 03/10/12) If it is a wooden pulley, mix glue and sawdust to make a filler. After it is dry, sand it smooth.

Might be worth a try, but those pulleys are not made of wood. They are made of paper.

There used to be some sort of wood filler , came in a red and yellow can, about 12" tall, 4" diameter, as I remember it had a guy on the front, and you mixed it with water and could fill just about any wood product, as thick as you wanted. Might check the lumber yards.

I think bondo would work. Clean the he77 out of it first. After couple hours fire the tractor up, engage the pulley and hit it with a rasp and then some 80 grit on the long board sander.

This one is :) LOL! Made out of an LVL laminated beam.
