FARMALL H CLUTCH

I am working on a H and the clutch does not take ahold untill the petal is let all the way to the top. It pulls fine then with no slipping but when you shift the tractor to netral and let the clutch petal out and then push it back in you cannot get it to go in gear but if you have it in gear and stop as long as you don't let the clutch out you can shift it to any gear you want. I am going to tear it apart but I was wondering what other things becides the clutch and pressure plate I should be looking at. Also this tractor has sat for years and was never moved. Thanks in advance.

Have you adjusted the clutch rod? Clutch pedal is supposed to have
1" of free movement according to my book. All you have to do to
adjust it is unpin one end and twist it to lengthen.

In addition to Zachary's point, the clutch disk
may be dragging a small amount on the Flywheel or
Pressure plate when the pedal is depressed.
If you have the free play set to one inch
(measured from the platform to the pedal stop when
pushed in gently by hand) the transmission should
slow and stop allowing shifting within 12 seconds
with the pedal pushed at least 6" down. If it
does it is normal. if it doesn't, the disk is
dragging, splines on hub are rusty, disk is warped
some, or the pilot bearing is in need of
lubrication. Jim

The clutch was adjusted properly, and I have the pump out so I can depress the clutch and the disk is loose and slides back and forth on the splines. With the clutch pushed down and transmission in neutral I can reach up and grab the shaft and it is sticking but I can get it to turn and then it is free and spins fine let the clutch up and then push it in and it is sticking again. I have pumped grease in the zerk on the flywheel but that doesn't seem to help. I will check replace the pilot bearing in the flywheel if necessary but how about the pilot bearing on the input shaft in the transmission?

Bob

Agree with Jim and what you describe sounds like a
stuck pilot bearing. They get stuck and will hold a
slight amount of drag on the input shaft.
