Power Steering

There is a priority valve in the hydraulic system, it is connected with a "U" shaped tube at the control valves. There is also a solid plug that needs to be in the valve assembly. If the unit was an add on system, there may be a pump at the front of the engine providing power to the steering.
If OEM power my bet is the priority diverter valving. If add on ??? Jim

Thanks, It is OEM The P/S will work if I work a lift lever at the same time. On the Priority Valve Will it stick or break what am I looking For ? THANKS

If it works when activating one of the other levers that shows that the flow divider valve is leaking. The spool comes out under that cap with a snap ring on left side of regulator, flow divider valve assembly. You may get lucky,( I have several times) and just need a new spool which was available just a couple years ago. The edges of the spool erode and then leak past. If the bore is worn too much then a new spool won't help. The valves can be rebuilt but it is very expensive.

(quoted from post at 20:48:04 03/07/12) Thanks For everyones help. Where can I find a Picture of the valves and controls?

You can probably look it up in the online parts lookup. Just go to the CNH website and type in 400 when you finally get there.
