H or Super H?

I bought my tractor from a guy that claimed it was a 1950 Farmall H. My serial number is 5699 SH. If it was indeed an H this would put at a 1939. If it is a Super H it would be a 1953 which one is it? Is there any other way to tell for certain? If it is indeed an H what else would the SH stand for following the serial number?

I was in the Army during the time the Super H's were made. I think its a Super H with SH after the S/N. Hal

The Super H will have disc brakes with 6 bolts on the cover, and it will have C164 cast on the block somewhere, I can't remember where. Super H will also have long axles, 6" longer on each side than an H. SH would indicate that at least the serial tag is for a Super. Another thing is casting codes, these are different than part numbers. A casting code will read NUMBER-NUMBER-LETTER and the SH cast code letter for 1953 was Y. There are other differences too but I can't remember them. I had a parts tractor once that was SH from the rear of the clutch housing back and H from there forward, it was in terrible shape and the front casting codes were all over the map.

Never heard of an "SH" suffix in a Farmall serial number.

You however can figure pretty close when your tractor was made by checking the year code (last character) in the casting date codes on major castings like the block, clutch housing, transmission, etc.

Year code for parts cast in '39 is the letter I; for '50 and '53 they are T and Y respectively.

SH also has three bolt starter, battery under seat, holes for pins on frame rail cap, Cult holes in Grille. Some had flat back lights.
SH should be a PREFIX.

Gordo, not so.

Super H's below serial 19234 should have no extra holes in the grill, no holes for pins in the front bolster, and a 2-bolt starter.

With such a low serial number, the tractor should have disk brakes if it is a Super H.

Disk brakes are identified by a heavy cast-steel drum held on by 5 bolts.

I apologize for the confusion. The Model is SH. The serial number is 5699 J. So H or Super and what does the J stand for. I uploaded a photo. Thanks TMCKEE

Sorry for confusing you. It simply refers to Super H`s below the 19234 serial # and described by mkirsch a couple responses back . Mainly no live hydraulics and no battery box under the seat.

mkirsch it's hard to use serial # to separate when which grills and bolsters were installed.

My late 1953 SH stage 1 serial #17417 has the stage 2 front bolster
and sheet metal. It has November and December "Y" casting codes,
including the front bolster. I have seen several pre 19234 serial
#'ed 53 SH's with the "stage 2 front bolster and sheet metal.

Mine does have the 2 bolt starter.

Super H's had 3 different grills during production. "H" grill, stage 2 grill without the holes punched, and stage 2 grills with holes for cultivators.
