quick hitch

From what I understand the the IH quick hitch, single and double, did not take off because they would not license the design to other manufacturers. Correct?
I have a 130 with the single point quick hitch and I love it. I can mount and dismount implements without leaving the seat. My question is what does everyone else think of the quick hitch design as compared to the traditional three point hitch system?

Handy as heck for connecting and dis-connecting, but draft control sucked. No reason they couldn't have been improved to work as good, and maybe the later versions were better. Smaller tractors like yours and the Super C/200/230 size, the draft control, or lack of, really didn't make too much difference, IMO.

So I have read John Deere wanted to be able to use fast hitch and IH refused, the rest is history. One fault of fast hitch is that is wears with age, bushings wear out, ends of shafts wear out, etc. A 3 point hitch is much simpler and shows less wear and costs less to fix. I had all the bushings replaced in my 460 fast hitch a few years back, cost $400+. If I had a choice I would probably prefer 3 point with the adapter that attaches to the two lower arms and the single top link (it has a name but I'm brain dead at the moment). Then all you do is back up to the implement and lift it. Much easier than getting off and attaching the arms. Also, some tractors such as my 460 do not have a built in drawbar meaning you have to use a fast hitch drawbar which places stress on the fast hitch causing probably more wear than the fast hitch implements do. That said, if I want to buy a tractor that fast hitch was available and it is missing, I don't buy the tractor. It is part of IH's history, so I'm really not complaining about it.

Handiest hitch ever, hook up to wagons without getting off the seat, never use the jack on the baler/haybine, change tire setting, down pressure on a blade, easy to hook up when they got sloppy, downside the slop on newer models, and the lack of good draft control, if the valve worked right ok but many were converted to a std valve, they could have done more but 3 pt took over, having a IH with FH around is like having an extra shirt pocket

My biggest gripe about the fast hitch on my 350 is having no way to control the pitch of the implement. From what I understand the later implements had the pitch adjustment built into the tool; is this correct? To me the adjustability and functionality built into the 3-point hitch is what makes it win the contest.

I believe another factor that made the 3-point the industry standard is that the design is easily scalable for different sized tractors while still allowing some cross-over between adjacent categories.

I don't know how you hook and unhook without getting off the tractor. On my Cub, I have to push the implement backwards all around the yard and I can never get it to slide in and latch.

I always end up getting off and pushing the implement into place by hand. Unhooking is just as bad. I can plow 1/2 an acre with the latch undone and the stupid plow won't come out. If I get off and give it a shake it falls right out.

I love mine on my 140. It is, in my opinion, much better than a
3 point. Everything about the fast hitch is easier. Plus, I can
use the front lift to tilt rear implements when I would have to
mess with the third arm on a 3 point hitch.
