H streering

Am working on a H would you guys tell me how to remove the worm gear that turns when the steering wheel is turned and in turn move the tires. i want to remove the radiator so I can get at the engine easier. [stuck] Thank you

There is a large plug on the front of the gear box. It is removed then the worm is screwed out the front. Don't smash it taking the cap out, it is a bit hard to find. Jim

It is super easy. Just get a large pipewrench and unscrew the big nut at the top of the bolster.

Disconnect the steering shaft coupling, that is located near or above the valve cover. Do whatever you need to get it disconnected, they can be pretty stuck.

Last, twist the steering shaft and it will "worm" itself away from the steering sector gear, twist in a direction that makes it move towards the front of the tractor, then you just pull it the rest of the way out.

What do you mean "don't smash it taking the cap out"?

I have seen three caps that were mangled and had to be sawn out of the threads. They can be tough to remove if corroded in. Jim

My H and MD must have leaked enough fluid to keep them loose.
