Gasket Sealer

I"m about to reassemble the motor for my "44 H and wondered on which gaskets (if any) should I use some sort of gasket sealer such as Permatex? I bought the complete engine gasket kit from this site and just wondered. Thanks for your help, all of you have been so incredibly helpful (and understanding) during the restoration of my tractor.

I always use grease on all my gaskets. It conditions them to oil; makes it easier to correctly place them; helps to press out small wrinkles; and makes them reusable when you take it apart to re-adjust/install a part you forgot.

Copper coat spray on head gaskets.
Hi-Tac brush on for cork (one side only)
#2 permatex non-hardening for waterpumps and coolant fittings and access panels.
rarely, do I use RTV, onl to make a seal where there is no available gasket, and then with a very carefully placed skiff of material to avoid squish out and system contamination.
Teflon tape is a choice for threaded fittings (careful wrapping to avoid shreads getting into the system). Jim

Copper coat on all gaskets. You might consider Permatex, etc if the surface is deeply pitted. As Jim said on the oil pan and valve cover only do the top side if any at all. You will have to remove the valve cover to readjust the valves. Oil pan is more likely to leak from bent medal as opposed to the gasket.

I actually found a tube at NAPA of gas resistant RTV. It was the last one they had, so I bought it just to try out. I haven't used any yet, so I don't know whether or not it will work.

I always use a very thin film of RTV on most gaskets (not head gaskets or carb gaskets). Also a bit of RTV on any water (radiator) hose connections. Helps them slide on easier and prevents any small leaks.

All good advise!

To add,I would take the time with a GOOD ball pien hammer and a hard, smooth block of wood and CAREFULLY straighten out the sealing edge of that oil pan.If the bolt holes are dimpled in a bunch, take a socket slightly bigger than that hole and back it up with it on the opposite side of the pan and carefully take your hammer and tap them back flush.

ditto what J/N said. I got similar advice when I had the front off my C for a pulley replacement and crank seal. permatex, used sparingly, worked great..
