IH 856 diesel on ebay

Looking at the 856's on ebay and noticed something on this one. If you look at the side where the fuel filters are they are 806 style not spin on what the 56 series used. He said all orginal but could someone put a 806 motor in this tractor? Would not think someone would change spin on to canaster filters. It has the 56 series shifters. item # 120865918428

Larry - Our 856 has the canister type oil filters with the rubber ring at the bottom
for the housing groove which the can screws down upon. You put the filter element on and the can over it, then snug it down carefully while the rubber big O-ring seals it, no leaks ! I can get the filter elements from NAPA, Carquest, Case-IH, all fit fine, never had any problems, just gotta be observant, careful. I think ours is a 1969 year, but we did
have a 1968 year one too with the canister oil
filters. Both were diesel engine powered and
a great pulling powerhouse which I still use for retired work now ......

The canister is correct original. My 1256 has cannisters. However,a few late ones may have had spin-ons.IH offered kits to 'convert'to spin-on

We replaced the ones on our 1206 with a kit from IH to add spin ons. They might not be correct but are a easier and cleaner to change .

They came with spin on filters.I think you are right about the 806 engine.Ask for the engine displacement stamped on the left side of engine block d 361 or d 407 will tell you what it is.

All 407 and 361 engines came with canister oil filters on the tractors. The 56 series came with spin on fuel filters whereas the 06 series came with canister fuel filters. Worked on hundreds of them.

The 856 that was on ebay had canister fuel filters. That makes me think someone put a 806 motor in it. It had 56 series shifters. I still have two 806's and one 856 today. My 806's I have changed them over to spin on fuel filters. Got parts off 56 series out of salvage yards years ago.

Yes, the block is the same but the cubic inch displacement is
larger on the 856. The CID will be stamped on the block like
the previous post said.

Sorry...my mistake. I realized it was wrong just a few moments after I posted....its that having a retirement problem !!!!!
