Cub Shutdown

Was plowing snow this afternoon with my cub. Was running fine for over an hour, then abruptly stopped running. No sputtering, no attempt to try to keep running, just stopped, like turning off an ignition key. Does anyone have a clue as to what happened? Does not seem to be a gas problem, tank was over half full. Acts like spark, but why?? Engine turns over fine, but will not try to fire. I'm mystified.

Sounds like you have a dead coil, should restart when cold again. When it occurs again check to see that you have a good hot blue/white spark if it is yellow/orange or none at all you found your problem.

"Just like turning off the ignition key"-I think you answered your own question, I'd check the coil, ballast resistor (if it has one), ignition switch/key and condenser. When It quits try a test lite on the coil post (the one coming from your switch), that'll tell you if you're getting power to the coil, work your way forwards or backwards until you find the problem. Go to the Ford 8N board and search for "50 tips" a lot of good info that you can apply to your Cub.

Since you were plowing snow I would look under the distributor cap to see if snow is in there or any wetness. Hal

Try cleaning the ignition points. A white oxidation powder that accumilates on the contacts is a very good insulator. Joe
