Farmall M gears

I was browsing eBay and saw new tranny gears are available. Does anyone offer the 7mph gears yet? A faster 4th would make a M so much more usable for me.

I have an H,M,and a SUPER M with a M&W 9 speeds they make a more useful tractor. Would have been great if we would of had those back when we were using them to farm. The extra 4 gears are faster than fourth but slower than fifth. WILDMAN

I put super H gears in my H last summer when I had to open up the tranny anyway, and they made a huge difference, especially the 7 MPH 4th. I don't know if Super M gears are interchangeable into an M in the same way, but it seems like a possibility and I am sure someone on here will know.

Ive been keeping my eyes open for SM gears and haven't found any yet.

We had an H that had the higher speed after market gears installed. It was OK for a faster road gear when there wasn't enough power for 5th bu the loss of the original 2nd gear speed made it a poor tillage tractor. It ended up speeding the rest of it's life as a loader tractor.

Might be the same gears that have been available on the aftermarket for several years now. Made in China, or India, using reverse engineered blue-prints that must have been drawn up using worn out gears as a pattern because from what I've been told, the new gears will not mesh with the old gears.

Not a good idea to mesh a new gear with an old gear in any event. Unless you want to listen to a lot of noise.

That is true, but I'm talking about internal meshing, such as internal splines that slide over external external splines on a shaft.

I put a gear kit in my M back in about 1970. I got it from TSC it made 3rd gear about 5 mph and 4th about 7 mph. I dont think it changed 2nd or first. It made the old M much more useful for raking hay and harrowing.Later 4th became my road gear when 5th became useless because it kept popping out. I wish I still had the old M.

What you are looking for and what the gentleman who put faster gears in back in the seventies are Super M gears. They are getting hard to find but a Super M with 13.6x38 tires will go 5.4 in third and 7.4 in fourth at high idle engine RPM of 1595.

You have a overdrive not a two speed. M@W and HEISLER were the two types.
