Farmall A/Super A radiator

I've got a Super A radiator on my '44 A, and it is too large to get the grill and hood on. The radiator holds water, but has some bent fins. Otherwise its in decent shape. So, what is the best way to go about selling my radiator? Could I get anything for it on Ebay? Do you think I could get enough for it to buy the correct used radiator? If I can, do I want to, or should I just opt for a new radiator? What would you do?

If it doesn't fit your A it is off of a Super A1 or a Super C. They are taller than the A/Super A radiator. I don't use ebay so I can't comment, but I certainly wouldn't buy a sight unseen radiator off it. Best to bite the bullet and get a new one.

I agree with the origin of your too tall radiator
expressed by CNKS.
However if you show it on an operating tractor
with it warmed up and pressurized, it should sell.
Probably locally, but sell. Craig"s list, or this
site to the left, or Ebay. Markets drive prices.
If you replace it be sure to get either a correct
radiator (probably non pressurized) or a
pressurized radiator (better, but not OEM for that
tractor(I think the pressurized radiators were put
on in the late 50s.))
The one you have would be pressurized if it has a
cap that looks like most car caps of the 19 60s
and till the smaller caps were common. Non
pressurized if it takes a cap that looks just like
the gas cap. Jim

Try craigslist first since it's free.

Or if you're in a hurry to move it, go to ebay.

Either way might take a while to sell it, but you never know.

You have two things in your favor: New ones are pretty expensive - and they're not crazy heavy, so shipping shouldn't limit you too much.

It's all luck. There just needs to be somebody out there looking for one. Look up the price of a new one, and price yours accordingly.

Ebay is better because there are more people using it, but it costs you. Craigslist tends to be very local, but free.

Wow, thanks for all the replys! Here is some more info that I should have offered from the beginning to clear up some confusion. This is not a new radiator, my dad put it on in the early '90's when the old one was just beyond repair. I think he bought it new at the time. (yes, dad ran it since the early '90's without grill or hood). In those days he had a hard time finding a radiator, when he finally found this one after a few weeks without use of the tractor he said, "good enough!" But then, he wasn't a particularly picky man...but I digress. The system is not pressurized, there is no cap (dad used a Dr. Pepper can with the top cut out of it...), but it looks like it would take a modern style pressure cap. There are no leaks when I run it as is, but how would I tell if it would leak in a pressurized system?

There is no way to pressurize the original radiator without blocking off the overflow so you dont need a pressure cap. Still dont need a pressure cap even with the water pump. There isnt any pressure cap that would fit the original radiator

So, do I correctly understand that what I currently have is a radiator from a super A-1 or newer tractor that is designed to run on a pressurized system? If so, how do I go about proving that it will not leak when under pressure so I can sell it to someone who owns one of those tractors?

Gene, by "good one" I assume you mean used but usable? That would be fine with me. I know you have said in another post that you have parts, do you have a good radiator for an A that you would sell?

Use small rubber balls to plug the inlet and outlet. fill the radiator. Put a pressure cap on it (7.5psi) use a hand air pump tp put pressure in it (a small tube through the ball would do, or a fitting and shrader (tire valve)in the drain threads). Pumping will prerssurize it. Take pictures of the apparatus and (if you want to get carried away, put a pressure gauge in the line) Jim

When i took it off the engine it still had anti-freeze and no leak do you also need the shroud? 319-430-3907
