SH power steering w/loader

Finally got a loader bought for my SH. All hydraulic Koyker SuperK with 7" bucket. I also have a chance to get a Behlen PS from the guy.

Now, for $100 would you chance the Behlen unit not knowing the working condition of it and knowing they are the inferior power steering motor and parts are NLA for them?

Secondly, will there be enough clearance between the crossbar on the loader frame and the hood to fit the Behlen unit?

Thanks!

That Behlen unit came off a 400. Looking back through the archives, I see you said the shafts wont be right for my SH. What am I looking at to make them useable on a SH? Thanks!

Not sure that anyone has ever characterized the Behlen as the "inferior" PS actuator. I prefer them plus I like the bulky look.

The aftermarket PS Behlens do have a slighty longer input shaft, plus steering wheel thread, but that can be fixed with a welder or coupling or both. Below is a SMTA with aftemarket PS.

Well maybe not necessarily inferior but I thought the Behlen units were somewhat problematic...locking to the right or something? Thanks for the pic!

IATractorkid,

I would have to measure a 400 actuator (which I have) and my SMTA unit to submit a comparison. I can do that tomorrow.

A 400 Behlen actuator can be modified to fit either by welding or machining an extension.

I've got a 1950 H with the same Behlen unit as Wardner has. I've owned that H for 12 to 13 years now, and the only thing I've had to replace is the hydraulic hoses from the pump. Those hoses were both so rotten that oil was literally seeping right through the rubber exterior of the hose. Quite possibly were the original hoses from who knows how many years ago.
