40's Farmall h

Hi, Not asking for pricing but I have a chance to buy this H. I am concerned because the rear rims look like they are from a f-20 with farmall a,b etc. wheel weights. The front tires also look like car or trailer tires. I am waiting on more info about the tractor but does anyone see any thing that I am missing?

If the price is right, those obvious things won't matter because they can be remedied, but the price would need to be way down there. I'm kinda thinkin" somewhere around $500 or less.

May be former steel wheels cut off with rims welded on. Can't be newer than a 42 model unless someone changed the oil filter housing.

Just talk the the seller. Does run, but might need carp or fuel tank cleaned out. It is 12volt. Looking for around 700. sheet metal is straight anything missing. He bought this as a package deal and does no want it anymore

If it runs okay I would think $700 was quite reasonable.
Can't see a lot of it to see what might be missing, but what is visible looks fairly good.

Can't see that much in the picture. Only other thing I can see is non original type lights. If it stll has a radiator shutter in good shape that would be a plus. Can't see what type manifold it has. Looks like it was a distillate or kerosene fuel tractor.

No harm making an offer, cheaper is always better. I really like my H, have had it for just over 2 years now. They are handy for a lot of things.

Todd, a lot of wartime tractors came with steel wheels and when rubber tires were easier to get after the war the owner went to their local blacksmith shop and had the wheels cut down and rims for rubber tires welded on. they are most likely the ones that came on it new, but you can put f-12 or 14 wheels on an h but not h wheels on a f-12 or 14. h axle 2 1/2", f-12 or 14 2 5/8". i have a war model h that has cutdown wheels and original paint and fenders and i can't get $1200 for it and it runs like a top and has very good tires.

Randy, Wheels from a F12,14 and a H does not interchange properly, axel diameters are different.H farmalls came out with steel wheels and the H wheels were used for cutoffs

(quoted from post at 16:04:36 02/25/12) beside no fenders notice anything else missing

They didn't all come with fenders, especially then when money was tight.

I just bought this one for less than your intended offer, but it was a pretty good find. It is pretty much a parts machine unless you want to spend A LOT of money on an H.

It could be a '43, I have never seen a '43 that didn't come on steel. It might be older, looking at the long filter, but the filter cover will interchange. You could order an H on steel all the way into the early '50's if you wanted it on steel. I even read once someplace that you could get a 400 on steel. As mentioned, the rubber was probalby put on later, that was common after WW II, as rubber became more available. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

I just got one going that looks exactly like yours
after sitting 20 yrs I got rear rims and tires at an
auction for $300 JB Welded the front rims and exhaust
and it's the greatest running and operating tractor
you've ever seen not to mention the greatest
sounding. Give those 'ol farmalls a chance they like
to run and parts are readily available. I sure don't
regret it
