Rust Inside Ammeter

Like a bonehead I powerwashed my dashboard and got water inside the ammeter. I left it alone for 30 days, the water is gone, but now I have rust inside the glass near some metal in the lower left hand corner.

Is the ammeter ruined? How would I check it? I am currently rebuilding the tractor and don't want to take the dash apart after assembly.

It might not be ruined as in not working, but it will be very difficult to remove the glass W/O destroying the bezel. Jim

You can remove it and using a lite in series and two jumpers you can test for the needle movement and by reversing the leads check for needle movement the other way. No being careful you can remove the bezel with a small screwdriver and clean the face and glass. I have replaced the glass several times fr.om an old flashlite. It can be done

A quick check for ammeter operation is to bring a small magnet close to the gage face then move it around while watching the gage hand. If the hand left and right of 0 the ammeter is working OK.
