ordering parts, but....

Hey guys, I was gonna order some parts for the 300 Utility today but I am having a little trouble. I can't seem to find the seal for the independent PTO anywhere. Does anybody carry it or do I need to take it out and find a match from a local shop? Also debating on what to do with the exhaust. It has the underslung exhaust and the elbow is junk. If I want to go through the hood do I just reverse that elbow and put a hole in the sheetmetal? I see the elbow from several suppliers but stumped on the PTO seal. It looks like winter is starting to loosen it's grip so I want to get on this stuff soon. I am just going to do a few things like simple maintenance and while I am at it I will pull the rad and see if I can save it. Thanks.

Neilc,Never, ever cut the sheet metal.I have a Ferguson TO 30 that I use in my garden that has bthe underslung exhaust on it and when I cultivate the corn and beans it would burn the plants,I went to a fuffler shop and made a 90 that would clear the hood,It worked fine,I can always put it back orginial one day

Almost 25 years ago,my BIL did just that(I helped). We reversed the elbow.cut a hole in the hood and installed a new tractor muffler. The tractor is used in a dry grass(hi-altitude) hay operation and he was worryed about fires.Still has the tractor and no regrets.

I would NEVER bring a muffler thru the hood! The underslung exhaust on my Dyna-hoe loader/backhoe made me sick on foggy days so I put an elbow and a u under the frame of the tractor and brought the exhaust up on the outside of the frame. Solved that problem and no hole in the hood. On a side note I read in a book(The New Generation)(I think that was the name of the book about the development of John Deere 10 seiers tractors that came out in the early '60's) one of the designers wanted nothing coming thru the hood. That would have been the ultimate improvement on already great tractor! Armand

thanks folks. I never thought of the dealer but then again the nearest is about 45 minutes away  As far as the exhaust, I am a little nervous about lighting up hay with it so that's why the change. I will have a look when I go out today to the barn but I don't remember that there is a lot of room to play with to come out past the sheetmetal. It would be nice if I can though rather then cut a hole.
