Reproduction under seat battery box, are they all the same?

I need one for a Super MD. I don't mind spending a few dollars more for a good fit. The tractor is headed towards a paint job so finish is not as important as fit. Is any one better than another?

Only thing I have really found to watch for is weather or not they have "IH" stamped into the back of them. Some people dont care about it but I wont buy one thats not correct...

What are they supposed to look like?

Reproductions will not have the I-H logo on them cause they are not licenced from I-H to make them just get one from a salvage yard.

They do have the IH logo on the ones that are supposed to -- I believe they have authorization from CaseIH.

Nearly all battery boxes are make by OEM Tractor Parts, regardless of who you buy from. You can expect to make minor modifications such as alignment with the bolt holes, etc. Once done they are fine. There is another company that advertises in Red Power Magazine that I have read is higher quality. The company is Unique Design Workshop, De Graff, OH. 937-585-6475. Probably higher priced also.

I bought a new battery box for my 400, it has the IH logo on the back like the original, I got it from Rustyfarmall, who is a regular on this forum.

You do need to watch what box you buy. There is an extremely light weight one out there that has too many holes in the sides. More like a universal under seat box. It fits fine, but there are too many holes for the rear light and it is super thin metal.

The boxes from OEM aren't bad, the ones they make have the IH logo if the model was suppose to have it. I don't think your SMD should have the logo anyway. The metal is good thickness. The fit isn't perfect always. Expect to make a few tweaks to it. I think this is why they quit powder coating them.

There are better ones out there. You just have to look around.

Bates Corporation Bourbon,IN. lists a battery box with cover for $105.00. They show this goes under fuel tank for MD and Super MD..

Only Stage I supers.

Haven't noticed any exactly like the originals. Best you can do is find a heavy built one with a good attachment on the rear mount straps. Some are thin and some attach them to the box different. Box should just have a cutout at front top for battery cable, no IH on back, a place in left rear with 1/2 inch pipe threads to mount rear light post and no extra holes not needed on the box. Haven't saw a aftermarket with the correct holes to mount the remote control hydraulic lines going to rear to side of box if equiped. Maybe some out there though.
I like to check how well the front seat frame bolt bosses are attached to the box. Don't want to go off the rear.

Do you have the old one for a pattern? If so why not make one yourself or have your local welding shop make it? That way you will know it is made heavy(stout)enough and you can add or delete the IH logo as needed. Personaly I would not want one made too light weight of material. Armand

Just because it is a cheaper price does not mean it is better. OEM does not build all the battery boxes either. If you want a realy good quality under the seat battery box get a hold of Unique Design in Ohio like someone said here and you wont be diapointed. Just a tad higher but 100% better quality than OEM and it fits with no problem and is built to factory specs. You wont find the IH logo on a box for a Super M as they only used that logo on the 300,350,400,450 tractors.

After RusticRedAcres also mentioned Unique Design I called them up. The man is fabricating these in his backyard shop and his wife is taking orders for product. They say it's made to OE spec. I got a good feeling about this one, so I ordered one on the spot, $115 + shipping.

I bought a battery box from T.H.E.-Co. (Thomas Hassenfritz) for my Super H. It was about half the price of the other battery boxes on the market, about $65 at the time.

Does NOT have the IH logo but I really didn't care.

Fits fine.

Might not be made from the thickest metal on the planet, but seems plenty strong. Certainly much better than the old rotten box that was on there, and a far sight better than standing

I ordered a battery box for my Stage II Super M from OEM Tractor Parts and had no trouble at all in installing it. Very pleased with the construction of the box.

I bought one from OEM 2-3 yrs ago for my SMTA. One of the mounting brackets on the back was mounted about an inch too high and had to cut it off & reweld it in the correct spot. Bolt holes on the top front were positioned incorrectly so I had to grind them out to be able to get the bolts in.

The battery box came yesterday, excellent service! I haven't bolted it on yet but if it fits as good as it looks, I'm very pleased! The workmanship appears to be outstanding, as does the nice primer finish. Satisfied customer here!
