Iron in H rear end

Have a 53 super H stage II, drained oil from the rear end and tranny and found big pieces of bearing cage from a ball bearing. Just wondering is there any bearings in the rear end or tranny that are more common to go bad than others? Kind of thinking it might be from a inner axle bearing. Thanks.

Yes, inner axle bearing. Drive the tractor in second gear and hit each brake HARD. If the inner bearing is gone that side will "lurch, wobble, or clank". Sounds like some of the things we did in college :)

Hm? Found the same problem in my MD I am restoring. Had't pull the platform off yet to look.
