After noticing all the posts about tires I have a question about percent of tread left? Is the information about how deep the tread of a new tire would be on the internet, or is a new tire needed to measure. Tires in question now are firestone F&R 12.4 X 38 that measure 13/16 inch deep in the center and deeper as they go to outside. My guess would be 40 to 60 % tread left but I realy don't know. Anyone have a better answer?

Thanks Randy, if I understand that correct a new one would be 1-7/32 deep. So mine would be around 66%.

Yeah, but when you see people claiming % tread in an ad, this is the scale they use:

50% tread - looks like a drag slick, severe weather checking, some breaks in sidewall
60% tread - looks like a drag slick, severe weather checking only
70% tread - looks like a drag slick
80% tread - you can tell it was a tractor tire at some point in its life
90% tread - you can discern a tread pattern on the tire
95% tread - any measurable tread depth at all

Another good one is 'Fresh Engine'. In dirt bike terms, that means anything under ten races. Some ads that say,"Many extra parts" turns out to be a box of used piston rings, head gaskets, brake shoes and a worn-out rear sprocket.
