Where to run battery cables on a late syle H

I've got an early H that had the foot peg starter, when my steering post broke I replaced it with one from a later H with the bracket for the starter button mounted on the opposite side of the post from the light switch box. I'll need to get longer battery cables which kinda sucks because the previous owner had just put on new thick guage cables.
My question is where do the longer cables run, do they run through the hole in the rear gas tank mount where the starter button used to reside, or do they just run along the left side of the rear gas tank mount? I haven't been able to tell from the Farmall pictures I've been collecting.

You don't note if you are wiring for 6 or 12 volt. In both cases (especially so with 6 volt) those cables should be as short as possible. I also suggest you ground the battery to the closest starter mounting to frame bolt. The cable coming off the battery goes to the steering post mounted starting switch with another cable going to the starter post. It is very simple to wire but keeping those cables short as you can will be your best goal. On my 6 volt system on my 1952 H I used 00 size cable with soldered terminals. I also like those star external tooth washers at all connections to give it a good bite and all connections need to be shinney clean. Hope this helps, Hal.

Battery negative goes directly to one of the posts on the starter button. The other switch post goes directly to the starter post. Battery positive is grounded to the inside starter mounting bolt.

#1 gauge is more than adequate, and heavy duty, cast copper terminals are better than those stamped steel ends used on most cables.
