With this land I"ve bought I"ll have plenty of clearing to do and will take years to do it. So I"m thinking that I may be in the market for a TD-6 or -9 with a blade. I"ve used a dozer before (AC HD9) but not one of the red variety. The uses will be the usual dirt moving and clearing trees less than 6 inches.

What are coming problems with these to look for? What are their weak spots? How bad is it on the gas start diesel when they sit up for a while (if I should find one that"s been parked)? What kind of price range is reasonable for these machines?

I started with a T-9 and built a hyd 6 way blade for it with also a root rake.Had a TD-18 and the last dozer was a HD-21 power shift with a 12-71 Detroit in it!! You cant clear ground without burning and trees/stumps covered with dirt will not burn! I had 2 excavaters that i used to rip out trees and stumps and it was cleaner and faster than a dozer! Myself i think a 4 wheel drive backhoe is far more handy than either a 6 or 9 int. Rember, if it wont burn all you have done is move a mess from one spot to another! Bud.

Do you have a photo of the 6 way blade?

I understand what you are saying! I used the HD9 to dig out and clean up a tank that was getting overrun with willows. It turned out well but man what a mess to start with!

Good points though, and a backhoe would do duty for digging foundations.

I bought the T-9 from Oldsmoble in Landsing Mi and it was fitted with street pads,a large winch, and was used for moveing machinery. The hyd cyls arms, and push beam was there but never had a blade.I bought a legenth of 36" pipe 5/8 thick and cut one maby 28" and the other 20"?? Sucked them togather welded the 20" on the backside for push support and a 4" cutting edge front top and bottem. In short i had a large lathe and acess to cheap used steel. The angle cyls were to weak and the slides had to be pined to hold. The tilt which is most important for stump work worked very well.I had a chanch to buy a extreemly rare T-14 that Olds bought in 1941 and i was still using when i left in 1996! Sorry no pictures.Bud.

I have a TD9 with 10' angle dozer I am thinking about selling. Good runner, head reconditioned, radiator repaired. Good working old dozer. The start on gas switch to diesel has not caused any problems for me. I have many of these tractors. I am located in NDak.

Man, North Dakota is a wee bit far but it does sound like what I"m looking for.

Tell me this, when you start on gas do you have any throttle is does it just run at a fast idle? I know it"s not for any amount of work, but can they move under their own power when switched to gas?

Tractors can move out of the shed but that's about it. None of them let you adjust the speed but the 650 or series 92 (? Or was it 91) had a provision to adjust the speed.

Simple,You can put all the power on a small spot to dig roots and bust them without moveing as much dirt!10' is way to much blade for a 9 espc for clearing woork! Never buy any craller without good rails, pins, bushings, sprockets, bottem rollers, and never buy a craller with the old time grease rollers! It is easier to remove the bottem fimal drive covers to grease the steering clutches and if any water is there it will be drained.Your engine clutch is adjustable, linkage is greaseable but you need to learn to do it standing on your head! Like i said before,a 4 WD TLBackhoe is much better!!!!!! Bud.

I have bought and used several TD6 and TD9 machines. They don't impress me one bit. Lots of cracked heads and when they do crack get your check book ready. Heck I even had the heads heat treated and it didn't matter. I have had both an AC HD5 and 6 with the GM motor and they would runs circles around an IH 6 or 9. They are all very old machines these days though. You might do well to check out Cats. 933 and 955 machines are a bit newer and in the same price range.
