Cheap rear tires?

Is there such a thing anymore? I'm looking to buy rear tires for my H. 12.4x38 or 13.6x38.
Anyone know of a good source?
What would a rough cost might be for the pair?

A problem is that I'm in California, so getting them out there will be an issue.

I'll return from deployment in late May, so looking to pull the trigger in early June.

NO

No more good deals on tires.Shipping is even worse.

I will be needing a set of 14.9 x 38s soon,And I am gonna have to sell a few things to get them !!!

Unfortunately, he's right.

Tires are through the roof, and only getting worse. Every time oil goes up, tires go up.

Even if oil prices go down, the tire prices don't because the manufacturers have warehouses full of tires made when oil was high. Then the oil prices go back up again...

All you can do is save your pennies, and take care of your new tires.

I've got to put all new tires on a Case VAC with 10x28 rears, it's going to cost $800 if I pick up the tires and mount them myself. It's no wonder that much of the value on old tractors revolves around the condition of the tires.

Firestones 12.4x38 will run you about $700 each right now.
BKT 12.4x38 will run about $500 each right now.

Decent used tires are now sell for what I could have bought new tires for 10 years ago. I had a miss matched pair of 13.6X38s (half tread at best) that I bought at an auction years ago for $5 each. I left them in my shed and kept looking for another that might match either one.

Out of nowhere I got a call from a guy I didn't know that wanted to buy them - he'd heard I had them from a mutual friend. He offered me $100 each sight unseen. I refused his offer over the phone and told him to look at them first. When he showed up he offered me $140 each.

If your not concerned with brand, you can get either size for right around $1000 from TuckerTire on eBay. Shipping is either $125 or $185 depending on location. I have bought from him before and been satisfied.

On another note, if anyone is looking for a good set up 13.6s on rims and ready to pull the trigger TODAY, they might want to check these out:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/13-6-38-tires-and-rims-/230745096324?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b97ac084

As of right now they are at $350 with 1 bid and ending in 7hrs. If they were closer to me I would be trying to get them for that price!

Go with the BKT's have them on the fronts and rear of a few tractors i know of, and i am very pleased with use.

Next time you are near India or China have the US Navy foot the bill for the trip home. Good to hear from you.

If they have tractors and farms in Ca.,You can get
farm tires there.Find a Reputable full line/service
tire shop(not walmart or Big O or similar),they will
be able to help you. Some times even Big O(here)can
get farm tires, but you will be on your own for the
mounting.Thank you for your service, and come home
safe!

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as cheap new tires any more. They are basicly following the gasoline prices. It used to be that gasoline prices only followed oil prices and supply and demand. Now it just as often is politica and oil specalulators that cause the price of any oil related product (gas and tires) to go up even if oil prices are stable and the demand is down. At least that is the way I see it. Titan is a good brand tire for the money to answer your question.

Won't be too much longer until a fair price for a tractor will be determined by how many gallons of gasoline are in the tank.

I just got a price a few days ago,for firestone 12.4 x 38.4 ply.field and road. This was at CFI tire in Des Moines Iowa.

Cheap and tires can not be used in the same sentence anymore. In fact cheap and anything can't be used in the same sentence anymore. LOL

Cheap and the word tire do not mix in any way shape or form. LOL. Last I checked a 12.4X38 was in the $500 ball park per tire. Shoot even a 13 inch tire for my car will cost me $75 each

After reading all of these tire prices, it makes me glad that I bought a new set of Firestones for my Farmall H a few years back. 13.6/38 rear, and 6.00 / 16 on the front, all 6 ply tires, Field & Road on the rear, and 3 rib on the front, $500 for all 4, installed.

And sadly the replacements aren't going to last the 40-50 years the first ones did. I've got some 34's on a Case that were bought used 20 years ago, who knows how old they are, and there are no sidewall cracks. Front tires I put on a Ford 10 years ago are full of sidewall cracks.

Forgot to mention earlier that I priced out a set of Firestone 13.6x38's about 6 years ago, and they were a little over $400 each. I thought that was expensive then.

I bought a brand new pair of 13.6x38 Akurets about 10 or 11 years ago and paid $180.00 each.

I have been looking myself and the only cheap tires are used tires and best of luck finding a great deal on those, most run them until they become dust! Here is what I have found, if you want to go with a big name brand like Firestone, Goodyear expect to pay around $1500-$1900 with tubes (not counting shipping) depending on the ply of the tire, 4 ply or 6 ply. If you want to go with a foreign made tire I have heard that BKT is the best way to go, they will cost around $1200 with tubes. The thing about BKT tires is that they are 8 ply while firestone only goes to 6 ply. You can read all about the fight between buying name brand tires vs. foreign tires on this site but it comes right down to doing the research about the tires, talking with those who use the specific brands and going with what you feel comfortable with. As far as places to find them, Miller tire has good prices and I found BKT's through Petes Tire in Vermont (you will probably be able to find something closer to you, i live in NY). Nebraska tires sells "blem" tires which have had the name brand ground off them, go to their website and read about it, some swear they are good tires and others say they are garbage but its an option. Best chance to find tires with low to no shipping is to just go to the nearest tire retailer (not big box store) and ask them for prices, they should have their own distributors. I personally am going with the BKT tires but I am not going to be using them 12 hours a day everyday, only to work around the house. Best of luck Mike and thank you for serving our country!

Good luck to you Mike. For that size tire new you will be
looking at about $1300 with tubes. I have a set of 12.4x38 off
my M complete with rims that I will be selling. They have
some tread left but need tubes. I would rate them at fair to
poor but will last a long time with new tubes. Too bad you
are in California and I am in Illinois.

i got 13.6x28s 8ply for 355.00 ea delivered to a local tire shop from these guys. yea chinese but great tires, i have been driving thru the woods for months, no problems......

I am also in Illinois, and I would be interested in your tires when you take them off baelee05.

Just let me know the price and when you take them off.

thanks

Here's an indication of how bad it is:

Dad and I pulled a mismatched pair of BADLY weather-checked 13.6x38 tires off my Super H in 2010 after I got it painted. I mean these things were like petrified wood.

Sold 'em for $20 each, IH red overspray and all. A guy bought them and put them on a tractor and is using them.

All kidding aside, we do have a port visit scheduled in India. I will see what I can do to find tires, and get them on board for a ride home. I wonder how much I could save doing that. hmmmm
