Setting timing on 340

My manual says to set "Battery ignition timing to 25 deg. advance (distributor)" But it does not specify at what RPM. What engine RPM should I run to set the timing on my 340 IH utility? It does seem to move somewhat at different RPMs.

Probably at maximum idle speed (full throttle) -- that number should be in your operators manual somewhere. It may even be given on the serial tag.

timing is set at TDC at low idle then at high idle you should have 25-30 degrees advance. they are talking about distributer advance.

Set the timing at full rated RPM for the 25 degrees. If the advance is working correctly. When it comes back down to ideal it should be somewhere in the neighborhood of TDC + or - 5 degrees . and that is at what ever the book sayes is curb ideal is as i do not have my books next to me , they are in the truck and i am NOT going back out there , it's cold out there.
