Farmall Super C - Question

I bought a homemade front grader blade for my Super C. I unbolded it from another Super C and hauled it home. Today I went to put it on my tractor and it bolts up fine. The front frame of the blade bolts on at the front cultivator mounting holes. The problem is I can't get the blade to work on my tractor. The frame crossmember sits too close to the front of the tractor and rubs the tires. My tractor has 5.00 x 15 tires. Did some of the Super C's have 14 inch wheels? Did IH change the cultivator bolt hole locations? Can't figure out what is different?

put some car maypops on it like mine has :)

Does you C have the adjustable rims maybe they arent set in the narrow position. The 5.00x15 are the standard tires on a C

The crossmember hits across the front of the tires. The spacing of the tires isn't the problem. The tractor I took the blade off of must have had smaller wheels? I'll probably just have the blade frame cut, extended, and re-welded. It will be cheaper than changing the tires out.

Make sure your front lower bolster is on with the vertical post swept back, not forward. (possible issue) Jim

That could be the problem! How much difference do you think that would make in the horizontal position of the front wheels? Would it move them back 2 inches? I guess you would take the 4 bolts out of it to rotate it 180 degrees? Is there anything else that would have to come loose?

I don't think so. If one bolt is different than the others, make sure it goes back in the same hole.
If you put a level on the vertical part to "plumb" it make sure that you are contributing to the goal.
It will move it several inches. Look at Soundguy's Tractor in the original post, or others in the tractor photos to the left here. JIm

Same hole in the upper bolster, it limits the travel of the steering. This is an assumption that the C/SC is similar to the H and M for lower bolster attachment. Jim

Standing back and looking at it, you can tell that the bolster is angling toward the front and not the rear of the tractor. The tractor was put together from parts of other tractors. I guess the assembler messed up. :) Was the bolster angled toward the rear to reduce the tractor turning radius? Thanks everyone for your input.

It was angled to provide trail, Which is "caster"
as in the front wheels of a shopping cart.
It will ster much better when put together correctly. Jim

Dog gone it Jim, now every time I grab a shopping cart I'll be thinking about a Farmall C and wishing I was home working on it.
Just kidding, a great comparison.
My wife does the shopping anyway.
Very much enjoy your participation and valuable information on this site.

While we are on the subject. What is the purpose for the plate with the two holes in it located between the top of the bolster and the front casting? It protrudes toward the front of the tractor? Is that where the supports for the row markers hook up?
