cub floorpan removal

How does such a simple job become a headache? Re: Cub.. The inner brake pedal rotates a bar that goes to the other side of the tractor in order to operate the left brake. This pedal has to slide off this bar so that the floor pan can slide off since the floorpan is welded to a bracket that also slides onto this bar. I turned a four-sided set screw to slide off the brake pedal and it broke off. It looks like it screws into a nut that is welded to the brake pedal base...I guess I have to drill this out..I did soak it with penetrating oil overnight...am I overlooking something or is this just part of taking apart a 59 year old tractor? I still have to get the set screw out of the collar holding the floor pan to the bar.
...any ideas? the lever that locks the left brake to the right brake pedal is in the locked position..I soaked it with oil, used a torch and a hammer to no avail. Just another problem related to removing a simple floorpan..

That nut is just a lock to keep the set screw from comming loose. I would try to weld it to the broken screw, spray with some PB or something while it's still warm.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have welding equip avail. I am going to try to take off locking bolt and maybe enough of the set screw is avail to get some vice grips on. I'll heat it first..otherwise I'll be left with drilling it out. Im just afraid I'll mess up threads that way but could always re-tap I guess. thanks

I got my answer at another forum on cubs..Basically forget it unless it just has to come off..I wanted to completely strip tractor for painting, including floor pan, but it seems this part is not so easy..One person said he cut the shaft into and used hydralic press to get peddles off then welded the shaft back together..another said he heated the shaft red hot then threw cold water on it and beat it with a sledge hammer...?? like I said, I'll work around it..but thanks anyway..
