Super C info needed.

Just purchased a Super C and have a few questions, will have a manual on the way in the AM. Does the hydraulic system use 30 wt oil? Also, will a water temperature gauge(mechanical type) work for the hydratouch resevoir temperature indication, or does it require the specific gauge for that app. Appears the fan belt adjustment is via the pulley above the crank pulley, unlike others with the adjustable pulley(300,SM) on the WP. Am gonna need a new exhaust/intake manifold. Is aftermarket quality acceptable, any good/bad experiences? I priced one at dealership, don't wanna go that route unless req'd. Thanks for any info, got a set of two row cultivators with the tractor, hope to plow some corn this spring if all goes well. I'm sure more questions will follow. Thanks again,

we had a Farmall 230, an overgrown C. used IH hydraulic oil, looked just like ATF. Did not have a temp gauge for the hydraulics and never needed it.
manifolds from super A to 230 will fit. Should be some recycling yards with them. This site should have them, or Steiners, or Wengers, or in Ontario, Fawcett tractors in St marys's
great little tractors.

i use 30 wt in all my tractors that have touch control and my cousin uses the same and between us both we have 20 tractors with it in them and we haven't had no trouble with them

Water temp gauge would work (if it fits) for Touch Control, but would look stupid up there. The proper gauge is available, and cost is comparable to a water gauge, why not do it right? Aftermarket manifolds are okay, but with a jillion tractor salvage yards across the Fruited Plain, you should be able to find a nice used one. You'll like that two-row cultivator. That is one of the most relaxing pastimes ever. Quiet, easy to steer, 3rd gear, throttle just above idle, aromatic cloud of fragrant cigar smoke...

Re: Kris not needing a temp gauge---Dad had a remote 2-way hydraulic added to our SC [aeroquip couplers] so we could raise our barge wagons without having the extra supply tank on the right light bar. Only one time did I see the temp gauge up past middle. That was when the remote lever somehow got stuck in the down position for a couple minutes. But, yes, the SC's never had the gauge rise much.

ALL manifolds are "aftermarket." Parts for old tractors like this are not manufactured by the OEM. They are made by "job shops," who supply both the OEM and aftermarket.

There is no sense in paying the CaseIH price for what amounts to a reproduction Chinese manifold that you can get for half the money from this site, an A&I dealer, or Ebay.

The 20-30 wt was used when the tractor was new. To tighten the fan belt put the wrench on the shaft just in front of the bracket it mount too. The big nut on the back is supposed to not turn as it sets in a slot at the rear of the mount. But after all the yrs you mite need to put a wrenck on it when turning the shaft at the front. Its not the easiest task to do but thats the way they are builtthey use the same system since the A and B wentinto production in 39.

IH recommended SAE 10 before touch control fluid was produced. It is in the old manuals. 20 or 30 wt is likely ok but it is not what IH recommended.
