Gas Tank pads

Under the fuel tank, there are pads on the three studs holding the tank to the tractor. I"m guessing they are to lessen the vibration to the gas tank. I have my tank off the tractor (just finished using tank liner) and I figured I would replace the pads while I have it off. Does anyone know where I can get those three pads, or what I can use in place of them?

Thanks.

Yes, I've got 'em. email is open in the modern version.

I've seen rubber washers from a hardware store used, also cut-out pieces of what appeared to be old tire sidewall, maybe from a 2 ply tire.

I would make them if I were you. The dealer has them, but they are pricey. I think it will cost $10 for a set. If they sell Ford parts there are rubber pads under the radiator of the N series tractors that are the same thing but cheaper (at least now days. I'm talking same part different package.)

Go to the LOCAL tire shop with your cordless drill and a hole saw. Ask if you can cut some holes in their junk tires and your done. Don't try it at any of those stupid chain stores. Way too many rules so they probably won't let it happen.

I am going to start doing it even on restorations. There isn't much difference and not enough to be able to tell.

Just remember that whatever pads you use under the tank need to be the same thickness as what is under the radiator or the hood will not fit right, and if the wrong thickness is used under the radiator, there will be a clearance issue with the steering shaft where it passes through the radiator.

Hmm, that is probably why my hoods never fit the same after I take the tank off. I have yet to take a radiator off my H or MD, but I have replaced the tank rubbers.

I got them from Steiners. I think online they have their radiator pads and gas tank pads both labled as radiator pads.

The fuel tank mounting pads as well as the radiator mounting pads have the same exact part number in the original parts catalogs. Those pads are available from a variety of sources. Do a Google or Bing search.
